23A: Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage
My Venture's Unfair Advantage are a mix of 10 human, social and financial capitals:
• Empathy: It's valuable, rare and inimitable because it's something that has to come from within. It can be substituted with kindness and empathetic.
• Considerate: It's valuable, rare and inimitable because it's something that has to come from within. It can be substituted with kindness and being considerate.
• Kindness: It's valuable, rare and inimitable because it's something that has to come from within. It can be substituted with being emphathetic and considerate.
• Awareness of others: This is rare and valuable because it's important to understand everyone around you. However, this is imitable and can be subsituted for consideration because the two are similar.
• Passion: I would consider this capital to be low on the VRIN scale because many people have different beliefs and passions, especially at the University of Florida, and it can present itself in different ways. Many people I know have their own passions and are following it, but I would say it's still an important attibute of mine because you need passion for any endevour you take on.
• Adaptability: I would rate this high on the VRIN scale because this is something many employers and first-time entrepreneurs are searching for as a skill for their employees to posess. In the same way, this capital is hard to imitate and substitute for another because I believe this skill has to be innate, you can't really fake being flexible to changes or any challenged that may present itself.
• Social Network: Similarly to adaptability, I would rate this high on the VRIN scale because having a strong social network is important for making your venture successful and you can't imitate or substitute having a strong social network if you don't have it. My involvements and variety of people I surround myself with allow me to say that I have a strong social connection with others and because of my knowledge of this, I rate it high on the VRIN scale.
• Dedication: This is something I would rate similarly to passion, but could possibly be imitated on the VRIN scale because I can have dedication, but may not have the specific interest to pursue a specific venture or anything else. Hence, you can fake dedication for something you're not interested in, but have true, raw dedication for actual interests.
• Financial Capital: This would be rated high on the VRIN scale in my opinion because it's a lot to learn and it takes time to understand, especially if you're starting a new venture. I could see how this could be imitated by having someone else who understands financing focus solely on that, but I'm not sure if that would apply to this VRIN scale we're using for this assignment.
• Learning from Mistakes: I would consider this human capital as rare, valuable, and inimitatable. But this could be substituted with learned from failure, actually they could be interchangeable.
Overall, I think my top resource is my adaptability. Especially now in the middle of a pandemic, being flexible and open to change is such an important skill to posess. It opens me up to new alternatives and allows me to think outside of the box in any venture or involvement I'm in, preparing me for the future in a more appropriate way by throwing me to the wolves (or in this case, throwing me in a pandemic in the height of my involvement)!
