18A: Create a Customer Avatar

My Avatar is like any UF college student: overly involved, stressing about classes but chooses to procrastinate by meeting with friends or doing any sort of activity that will push off the real stuff they need to accomplish. She is a 22 year old out-of-state college student, about to graduate and move on to medical school to become a surgeon. She lives a basic lifestyle and has many friends, but her closest friends are her roommates. She follows politics, but it is not her main focus. She is a first-generation immigrant college student and is interested in the gym, Netflix, fashion trends and volunteering at a local animal shelter. In fact, she adopted a dog named Rico from that same animal shelter!

I would say this avatar is an alternate version of me: we're similar but different at the same time. I kind of gave some of the same characteristics as myself, but also generalized others. For example, I have long, dark-colored hair and a light complexion, but also added glasses since many students wear glasses to class and a basic T-shirt. I don't think it was a coincidence because I described my lifestyle as my avatar's (busy lifestyle with a set goal in the future and similar lifestyle characteristics), which can also be a prototypical customer for my product.

  1. Hey Anisha,
I think you did a great job creating your prototypical customer. You seem to have a really good idea of who your customer would be, and I think the details you used were good, especially the fact that she works at an animal shelter and adopted a dog named Rico. I related to some of her aspects, like procrastinating and an interest in politics. I found that adding details such as these in my exercise really helped me conceptualize my service and put more focus on the consumer.

  2. Hey Anisha, you did a good job of describing your customer realistically. I think having the customer resemble yourself or someone close makes sense because the problems that we are using for the assignments are ones that we face. I found that over time my idea of the customer has slowly become less like me but more reasonable as a market segment. Including the bit about your prototypical customer having a dog and the included picture went a long way towards making them seem real.

  3. Hi Anisha,
Great job creating a very detailed and in-depth avatar for your ideal customer. I can definitely relate to being a big procrastinator especially when it comes to getting assignments done for class when I have other things going on at the same time. This avatar description really gives me a great idea of what kinds of customers you will be targeting. Great job!
