7A: Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

Opportunity: I believe an opportunity exists where UF can speed up the process for students who are looking for parking on campus. This could be met by having a counting machine that displays the number of available spots at the entrance. This is something I have mentioned in a previous assignment. Who: UF Students What: Speed up the parking search on campus Why: There is only one garage this is available for, but should be expanded to all popular parking garages/ lots on campus that students mainly use. Hypothesis Testing Who: This could also be extended towards faculty and staff who see this as an issue. Testing What: How this could save students time from their busy schedules Testing Why: Some people may see this as useful when it comes to finding parking quickly. Interview 1: The first person I interviewed was a freshman who lives in a dorm on campus. He has a car on campus and lives near a parking garage, but offers limited parking. He was interested in the idea becaus...

6A: Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Opportunity #1: Coronavirus Disrupts Prescription Supplies https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/28/well/live/coronavirus-lupus-arthritis-prescription-drugs.html This article discuss the worries of every American person who relies on prescription drugs to continue their day-to-day activities. But, because of COVID-19, the high demand of some of these drugs has caused many large pharmacies to run out quickly, leaving many people fearing that they may not have a chance for a refill. I believe an opportunity exists for people who rely heavily on prescription drugs and are concerned about not being able find a refill. This opportunity is difficult to exploit because people are worried about the quick run-out of certain prescription drugs and with the development of COVID-19 tests, things may return to normal. Why did I see the opportunity: I saw this opportunity because I have personally seen this affect my family, as my grandfather was told by his pharmacist that they ran out ...

5A: Identifying Local Opportunities

1. “No one is trying to catch students cheating”: ProctorU and Honorlock’s common privacy misconceptions https://www.alligator.org/news/no-one-is-trying-to-catch-students-cheating-proctoru-and-honorlock-s-common-privacy-misconceptions/article_e1e1879a-a08d-11ea-a511-ff8cac017b13.html Since UF, as well as many other schools have transitioned to online teaching for the time being, the demand for proctoring and testing services has increased, leading to increased wait times and increasing privacy concerns. UF said the service meets their security and privacy policies.  The Problem and who has it: Students are concerned regarding the privacy and extra wait times for exams and tests. They are concerned regarding the invasive tactics many proctoring services, such as ProctorU and HonorLock, use. This is an issue because the drastic increase of students using these services and the major transition to online classes. 2.  “I feel like this is the one most close to my heart...

4A: Forming an Opportunity Belief

1) Beginning Point: I believe an opportunity exists where UF can speed up the process for students who are looking for parking on campus. 2) Belief: This need comes from the amount of time students spend in their cars, trying to find a parking spot on campus that is close to libraries or popular meeting areas. This could be met by having an electronic billboard at the entrance of each parking garage or parking lot on campus that allows students to see how many parking spots are available for students. This would be very helpful for students who come to campus after the parking restrictions are lifted (typically after 4:30pm). This has always been needed and this need is being met at the Reitz Union, which has one of these for its parking garage for its visitors, so the same idea could be extended to many popular parking lots/garages on campus. I would say there is about a 75% chance the opportunity is available. 3) Prototypical Customer: A prototypical customer would be anyone w...

3A: My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
The highschool I went to was a predominately white school on a rural town, with a low percentage of students of other cultures/religions/ethnicities. While working with my guidance counselor, I was able to create a large fair held afterschool that exposed students to many different cultures globally. Students would choose a country and do research on it, make a dish, or teach a game for other students to interact with. This exposed me to my first steps of entrepreneurship because I noticed some unmet needs of the school and created a project that would benefit everyone. Below, I have added a picture of my friend and I from the cultural fair, wearing traditional Indian clothes. I decided to take ENT3003 because I want to learn more about how entrepreneurs find inspiration to create projects and stay motivated when things don't go their way. I hope to use the skills I learn in this class in my future business career in an endeavor I pursue.

2A: Bug List

Issues that Bug Me: When motion detectors don't work when opening doors. I have to get really close to the door to the point where I could just open them myself. Why? The motion sensor must not have a big range to sense movement. When my water bottle leaks. Why? I may not have closed the water bottle all the way. Calling customer service for some product and going through all the steps just for an automated voice message to tell me that no one is available to answer my call. Why? There is no one working at that time or they are very busy. Paying for tolls on Turnpike in Orlando. Why? They use the money to build proper infrastructure for the roads and cities. When my phone charger in my car breaks. Why? I bend the cord a lot so the outside covering rips. Or the material is cheap. Drinking anything out of a paper straw in Gainesville. Why? Although it’s environmentally-friendly, the paper gets wet and sog...
