8A: Solving The Problem
1) The need comes from the amount of time students spend in their cars, trying to find a parking spot on campus that is close to libraries or popular meeting areas. I believe an opportunity exists where UF can speed up the process for students who are looking for parking on campus. This could be met by having a counting machine that displays the number of available spots at the entrance. This is something I have mentioned in a previous assignment.
2) This could be met by having an electronic billboard at the entrance of each parking garage or parking lot on campus that allows students to see how many parking spots are available for students or having a counting machine that displays the number of available spots at the entrance. There could be a sensor at the entrance and exit that will add and subtract to the sign.

Hi Anisha!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a really good idea. Having a running counter of available parking spots would save people a lot of time while looking around for parking spots. I know that if I had that when I was moving into my dorm for my first semester, this would have helped me a lot. Maybe this could be translated to an app? I think the product would spread very easily that way.
I’m very convinced that your proposed solution would help the “need” of students trying to find parking on campus. However, I’m a bit concerned that this wont entirely solve the problem. Though a sign is very practical, it still requires making the effort to physically drive to the parking garage. I would recommend either narrowing the opportunity or expanding on the solution. If the “opportunity” is more specifically, students wasting their time and racing through a parking garage to find an empty spot, then I think this solution would solve the problem because students need only glace at your proposed electronic billboard. On the other hand, If the “opportunity” you wish to solve is to remain “UF can speed up the process for students who are looking for parking on campus,” along with the billboard, I would include some sort of method that continuously disperses/communicates that updated information to students, possibly a campus app that updates the number of vacant parking spot. Regardless, great “opportunity” to tackle and I appreciate how effective your writing style is.
ReplyDeleteHey Anisha,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea! I hate looking for parking, especially when it makes me late. This will be my first semester having a car on campus, and your idea would definitely make all of our lives easier. I agree with some other commenters that an app would probably streamline this idea even more and make it cost less. Maybe it could be similar to the RTS bus app, which many students have and like to use. Great job!
