27A: Reading Reflection No. 3
The book I read was How to Fail at Almost Anything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams. This book was a breakthrough in my mind because of how it tackles the concept of failure and how to rise above it. As college students, we refuse to be discouraged easily and keep our eye on the prize. In reality, college is a big adjustment, and learning how to accept failure and move forward is an even biggest adjustment. We come to realize that failure is a part of the human experience, which Adams discusses heavily in his book. For a class assignment, I would ask students to interview 3 people they think are very successful in their respective field (does not have to be business-related) and ask questions about their viewpoint on failure and what they felt was their biggest failure and how they overcame it.
Great presence and confidence in front of the camera. Personally, I had a lot of trouble with this myself. In regards to your pitch. I think you made very valid points, which I’m sure all on-campus students would agree with. However, you went over 90 seconds, which I’m sure you’re already aware of. Sadly, in my attempts to work on my own personal issues regarding fear of public speaking I’ve stumbled upon some tips that may help you out. Try opening your pitch by just hitting your listener with the severity of the problem. This method is effective in getting straight to the point and getting the attention of the listener as well. This may help you out because you only started talking about the “opportunity” and solution at around 30 seconds into your pitch. Overall, you did a fantastic job in front of the camera… way better than me.
ReplyDeleteHi Anisha! your elevator pitch is very informative and all too relatable to myself and many other UF students who wish to have an easier time finding parking on campus. Your solution is strong and the problem is relevant and I think you could use that to create a strong hook at the beginning that catches the audience's attention right off the bat. Awesome job!
